Athletes prepare and strive for great results: Registration for the WMG 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City is ongoing

113-11-12
The WMG 2025 Taipei & New Taipei City features a total of 35 sports, with 15 already fully booked. Participants in the STRONG WIN Training Camp are steadily increasing. In addition to attending the classes, some participants are making their own training plans. They make the most of their spare time to improve themselves, hoping to achieve their goals in the World Masters Games 2025.

Low entry requirement: Multitalented participants in the training camp are common

This training camp offers 38 sport events to choose from, and many participants are engaging in two or more sports. Celeste, who’s in a relationship with Te-hung, was praised by her coach in the ballroom dancing training camp for her high-level skills. Celeste had prior experience in ballroom dancing, which helped the couple strengthen their bond and gave them shared interests. She convinced Te-hung to join her in the dance world. Interestingly, when Celeste first heard about the World Masters Games 2025, she wasn’t interested. It was only after Te-hung’s persistent persuasion that she agreed to sign up.
Te-hung, who encouraged participation, signed up for swimming, running, and cycling events simultaneously, while Celeste focused solely on swimming. In addition to the training camp, Te-hung made a personalized weekly training plan and enrolled in swimming courses at a sports center. Following her boyfriend’s lead to participate in the World Masters Games 2025, Celeste, who hadn’t swum in a while, just hoped to finish the race. Through the training camp, she regained her memory and practiced techniques like transition turns and butterfly stroke. She excitedly said, “Participating in an international competition is the biggest motivation for me. The process of working hard towards my goals and completing the race has been incredibly rewarding.” Their enthusiasm even influenced Celeste's parents, convincing them to join the training camp as well, hoping to strengthen their family bond. The parents also gave positive feedback.

Professional training and guidance: Participants rediscover their passion

The training camp not only provides practical assistance to participants but also offers an opportunity for the public to rediscover the joys of sports. Chen Wei-chia, who grew up training in a formal setting, had developed a strong aversion to training camps due to an excessive training experience with a coach in her childhood who prioritized results over the well-being of the athletes. Encouraged by her partner, she mustered the courage to attend the training camp and unexpectedly experienced a different approach to sports, rekindling her love for sports. She said, “I never realized that sports could be this enjoyable. In the training camp, the coaches guide you step by step; every movement is carefully guided, and there’s no overtraining. They adjust the teaching content based on individual abilities and quickly correct movements.”
Chen believes that the professional teaching resources available at the training camp are invaluable, prompting her to decide to participate in multiple training classes. After trying out unfamiliar sports, she discovered that many people in Taiwan have been dedicated to these sports for over a decade. Next year, she is targeting squash at the World Masters Games 2025, hoping to apply what she learned in the training camp and express her gratitude to her coaches for their thoughtful guidance.

Over 30 and still ambitious: The dream of becoming a national champion resurfaces

Speaking of the dedication of coaches, Lin Yu-chun, who is participating in the taekwondo training camp, took the opportunity to return to the dojang where she learned taekwondo as a child, reliving those memories. Her former teammates are now coaches, and every practice reminds her of the hard training they went through back then. She is committed to participating in both Kyorugi and Poomsae at the World Masters Games 2025, reigniting her taekwondo dream that had been interrupted for a time.
Lin declares her goal to earn a place in the recreational group for taekwondo at the World Masters Games 2025. During her initial return to the dojang for training, she found it challenging and struggled to keep up physically, even starting to resist training. However, experienced teammates told her that hitting a wall is a natural part of the process, and if she persevered for two or three months, she would eventually adapt. Sadly, her mentor passed away last year, which she deeply regrets. Even though her coach cannot see her return to competition, she looks up to the coach’s daughter, who is also involved in taekwondo, symbolizing a sense of legacy.

Making up for past regrets: The whole family participates in support

Fan Chih-chieh, a 50-year-old with a background in taekwondo, brings his wife and child to the training camp, creating a perfect representation of family enjoyment in sports as they all learn together. This also allows him to teach his son taekwondo techniques. Fan was once a member of his school's team, but due to severe myopia and knee injuries, he missed the opportunity to compete nationally in high school. Watching his classmates compete overseas and become national champions filled him with regret, as he was merely a substitute. To make up for this regret, he is targeting both Poomsae and Kyorugi at the World Masters Games 2025.
Fan expressed his happiness and excitement about the opportunity to participate in a world-class competition. After not engaging in taekwondo for 30 years, he aims to compete and hopes to challenge himself to regain the level of performance he had as an athlete.
